Anyway - I'm trying to get on with life, but this small-town, narrow-minded, holier-than-thou, tunnel-vision ridiculousness is really starting to drive me NUTS!

Talk about ridiculuous |

This is STILL going on. I was actually at the board meeting Monday night and it was brutal, ugly and personal. Some of the sordid details and some of the
comments are at this LINK. The good thing is nothing really
changed - the bad thing is that I had to sit w/my mouth shut while out and out lies were told about me by a fellow "church" member. Most of the
people who spoke did not have students in my class, have NEVER had students in my class, and probably have not read the book. Only three people commented who
had kids in my room (and two were a husband/wife), and they were split - one family supported the book, one didn't.

Im so sorry you have to go through all that, your the teacher and wish everyone would just let you teach and trust the material you are teaching. I read the
book, and I didnt find anything wrong with the book, and enjoyed reading it. I know its hard but dont let it get you to stressed out, I admire you for fighting
so hard on this, and sticking to what you believe in, and everyone should believe in you and trust your teaching. Also they should read the book before judging
and opening their mouth. Dont let the people that dont know what they are talking about get the best of you. Keep your chin up, your doing the right thing.
Im pretty tired I got home from my trip around 6:30 this evening, Im to tired to go into full details about the events that went on while I was gone, but for now I will tell you that it was very emotional, I have a lot of love and support back home, and have decided if not before I will be moving back home in September with or without Tim. I did a lot of talking and thinking while I was away, and feel this is the best thing for me. Tim will be moving back to London, but will not be living with me. Full details will come later. I just want to say thanks and Im sorry for all of you that I didnt listen to, you all tried to tell me and I didnt listen, Im very sorry. One more thing. I got an A on my final, and recieved an A for my final grade, and my GPA is a 3.50 and made the deans list for the second time, Im so happy, take that back Im extatic. Take care everyone |

Boy, that English teacher, "Jan", sounds like a real trouble maker! I hope you don't have to spend your whole summer going to meetings about
this. At least you won't have to teach that class next year.
Beth, congrats on your great grade! Keep up the good work. |

I so COULD NOT (bold, cap, underline) live in your community. I can't imagine that those very narrow minded people are able to
keep this going for so long. Now they want to ban Grease as well? I have a feeling if they had their way half the stuff in the schools would be removed.
Seems like an unfounded witch hunt to me. What gets me the most (and I don't see it mentioned in the article) is that students had a CHOICE... they were
not FORCED to read anything, there were two books available for the class.
